How to make Fisherman Soup
- Place the hulled, rinsed, and diced coco yam in a pot. Add water and cook for 20 twinkles, until tender. Drain, also purée in a blender until smooth.
- Put the ocean snails in a pot with the stock cells, cover them with water, and cook for 20 twinkles.
- Add the fish, bones, ocean snails, shrimp, and ground Uziza. However, top up the water and poach until completely cooked, If needed. But be careful with the fish, to avoid breakage.
- Remove the fish from the sauce visage and set aside.
- Add the cocoyam in small gobbets.
- Add the palm oil painting, yellow pepper, and bitter leaves.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Put the fish back in the soup pot. Stir, also cover, and poach.
- When the added mixture becomes slurry and is no longer soupy or stew-like, remove it from heat.
Tips and Tricks
The ultra-modern Nigerian Fisherman Soup is slightly different from the original traditional Fisherman Soup because land snails and dried crayfish are now used to prepare it.
